I too have dealt with the same problem on our '85 and my experience was that
the original thermal conductive material on the fin tube was petrified and
useless however upon following the thread and using the Radio Shack goo, my
fridge actually was worse. I barely used a tube. I reapplied only a thin
uniform film to the interior of the fin clip and it now conducts properly
and frosts up well. Thats my story and I'm........
