Boy, that is quite a story. I can't believe that you could heat up that cable enough to start a fire (you must have been doing some fearless pumping on that ignition button), much less to transfer ignition to some other part of the van. It is true that the wire to the combustion chamber, if the insulation on the wire is cracked, will short out to the back of the frig and prevent ignition of the propane (I had that problem and finally found the short at night), but start a fire, I don't think so. And even if a fire started at that location, how in the hell would you put it out??? It takes me the better part of an hour to get the damn frig out to get access to that space. This is an amazing, almost haunted tale!! Don

Fortunately I extingushed this very quickly and there was no damage beyond the insulation of the wire. I originally tried to get the replacement from an authorized Dometic repair place. That fell through. Then (after one of our vendors mentioned the part number) I ordered a replacement through one of our online vendors. On Saturday it finally arrived. I put it in and the fridge fired right up, without any problems or quirks. I wonder now about other folks with lighting problems with their fridges, and wonder if a new sparker would help them. |
