VW made 2 ecu's by part number 025-906-022 & 025-906-022D and then they sold a rebuilt version of each which they numbered by simply adding the X. VW had two manufacturers for them - Bosch and Triumph Adler - but I believe both companies made both numbers. The 022D has a removable chip in it and was sought after by people who wanted to use the Australian hi-perf chip a few years back but I never hear about anyone talking about them now and we have never noticed any difference in driveability between the two units. We have always found that every 022 and 022D (new or rebuilt) is interchangeable and syncro v. non-syncro made no difference..
