Raymond,

I made spacers (standoffs, really) about an inch thick and 2 inches in
diameter from aluminum bar stock to place under the rails at the original anchor
points.  I punched holes in the floor covering (I also installed rubber matting)
to fit the standoffs then attached the rails on top of them with longer
fasteners.  With the rails well above the sound deadening material and the floor
covering, the seat slides in and out in without the hassle of lifting the carpet
and the sound deadening material.  One other thing I did was to install filler
strips cut from spare sound deadening material to fill the voids where the
seat rails had been.
