In addition to some of the other advice you've received, I'd suggest
preserving the engine and then *not* turning it over at all until you're
ready to bring your Westy back to life.

some preservation guidelines for an aircraft engine, which you might
wish to adapt.
Perhaps consider some type of oil spray like Krown rust proofing (Canada) or
the equivalent.
Use a fuel stabilizer, or better yet, just let one of us baby your Westy
for you!
