As was suggested earlier, it is indeed a sensor for obsolete test equipment. It is in fact a TDC (Top Dead Center) sensor. Only needed if you plan on trying to use that outdated vaccuum tube box from VW. Olin Bausback <mountain-man@COX.NET> wrote:Hi all,
I just finished rebuilding my 81 air cooled Westy and found an unused sensor. The sensor is mounted in upper right side of the case, just where the case connects to the clutch housing on the manual tranny. There is a cable lead (about 0.5 meters) coming from it which has a three prong male plug in a triangular pattern. It wasn't connected to anything when I took the engine apart.
Is this a speed sensor? Is it there for use with an auto tranny? If it is a speed sensor, I'm going to try hooking up a cruise control to it.
Thanks for any information you are able to offer.
