Hi all, Thanks for all the replies about my window! And about California. So, now I've made it to upstate NY (in my Toyota) to visit my sister, and I'm very happily camping out in my brother-in-law's 1982 vanagon. It's so nice to be in a vanagain! Even if it's not mine. Fortunately he has a nice electric heater, since it's snowing. (No, they aren't _making_ me stay out in the yard - I'm allergic to their eight cats, who have the run of the house!) Anyway, George lives in Trumansburg, NY, which is 20 minutes north of Ithaca, and isn't on this list (even though I keep recommending it). He does a lot of work on his van, but sometimes needs a mechanic, and his trusty mechanic Carl is getting too old to work on cars any more. So I thought I'd post on George's behalf and see if anyone knows a good reliable Vanagon mechanic around here, or if anyone in the general area has indoor (heated?) workspace and might like to get together with him to do a bit of work. (George and my sister have lots of space, including a barn, but it's way cold right now and George's glasses fog up every time he tries to work on the van.) He's dealing with some clutch issues at the moment, and is having trouble and sorting them out. I don't think George is much of an email person, but if you know of a good mechanic in the area, could you please email me? Offline is fine. No big rush, they're not going anywhere in the van too soon. Thanks!
