Subject: fuel filter and gas tank questions
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hello there. My gas tank and fuel filter must have heard all this recent talk about them. The fuel pump on my 85 has started to make noise.Filter lasted about 5K miles again. Well, here is the situation:I removed the filter from my parts van to replace the filter on my running 85 van.I knew that it had been used for about 10 gallons of gas, so why spend the money. This filter dumped out red rusty mud?I had to buy another .Well, the filter on my 85 dumped the same red mud, only to the max, when I removed it.Never have I seen this mud before on either van.The other filters all came out clear gas when I disconnected them.Every time over a few years period.Whats Up? Is the gas tank rusty inside? Why had the parts van filter contained rust when so little gas had gone through it? 2 rusty tanks at the same time dosent seem right?Especially where I had never had this problem before. Is the alcohol free gas allowing water to be avaliable and to rust the tanks? What is the future of my gas tanks?

Second question:To stop the noise from a clogged fuel tank sock filter (on the inside of the tank), I once ran a coat hanger into the tank exit pipe and tore through the clogged up sock.Bad idea! The tattered fragments of this sock now neatly fit into the fuel pipe where gas exits the tank. They got sucked right inside the pipe .Totally clogged tank now(parts van-whew ! ).My question is,can the tank be removed, and then remove the fuel level sender to gain access to rip the remaining tatters off?
