On my old 79 'loaf, I mounted the sensor on the number 3 exhaust manifold stud. I WANTED to know how hot things were down there. IIRC, even on a big load climbing hills with kayaks on the roof and in 95 degree heat, my temp never got over 475 F. My 2.0 had dual 2 barrel Webbers and a 3/4 cam et al. and a big external oil cooler One advantage of having the sensor on the exhaust stud is that you get much quicker temp changes showing up on the gauge. I had it mounted under the factory head temp sender for the FI system and it rarely read over 250F. Having the sensor underneath the sparkplug might be accurate, butI always had sealing issues and seemed to eat sender rings way too easily due to pulling plugs frequently for tuning those webbers. A brown electrode is a BEAUTIFUL site!!
