Subject: Re: Cylinder head temp?
Comments: To: Phil Cain <bearsvw2000@YAHOO.COM>

Phil, Air Cool engine with FI run's in the 400F at #3 easy, even 425 on freeway, i have done enough test with those Vanagon lately that i know my stuff, that said... you're on the high side... so, have a compression test done, after, let's talk. Are you sure about all those tins, any holes? what is the temps at 40-50mph, the 2.0L FI run's to hot in my opinion, i have converted that 2.0L with carbs and every time i have a drop of at least 50F with about the same fuel consumption and power. the best ever temp i could get out of a Vanagon AC/FI is 390F at 65mph, never close to 350F, where i think it should be.... Maybe we should know more about what you call an overhaul? Line bore? New pistons & sleeves? Heads?

Cheers, Ben http://www.benplace.com/

________________________________________________________________________ I am driving a 1980 westy, engine 4000 since a complete overhaul. all the cooling tin is on and sealed, fuel injected, timing correct, hi-test gas. the running temp on the head at 60MPH is around 425-450, if I pull a light hill the temp will go to 500-550 and higher if I pushed it instead of backing off, if this temp was correct I should have dropped a valve by now, what could be wrong with the system to cause such temps. Phil
