Peter, I did not open that up.  I use that  space under the rear closet for
oil, oil filter, brake fluid, etc.  storage.  There is another space though
above the rear closet that I have  opened up.  The small cubby hole to the far
left has a wood backing, the  extension of the divider in the closet.  This
small piece can be removed  with a small fine toothed hand saw like a drywall saw
but the teeth are  fine, to give access to the entire top of the rear closet.
Lots of  storage space up there.
