Andrew -

There are a few ways to tell what engine you may have.

Intake Ports on the Head: 40HP - Studs are vertical, straight up. 1300-1500-1600 - Studs are at angle (about 15 to 20 degrees)

Barrel Heights: 1300-1500-1600 Barrel Height is the same on all three displacements. The only way to know for sure is to pop a head and measure the cylinder inside diameter: 77mm = 1300 83mm = 1500 85.5mm = 1600

Engine codes: This can be a problem, as the codes for "down under" are most likely different. From my Factory Engine Survey:

E=1300 (M240 Low Compression)(Non-USA) F=1300 (USA) H=1500 L=1500 (M240 Low Compression)(Non-USA) B=1600 Single Port AB=1300 Dual Port (M240 Low Compression)(Non-USA) AC=1300 Dual Port (Non USA) -- Jim Thompson 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 73 K Ghia Coupe "Denise" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com ********************************** Hope this helps.
