I actually had a custom five speed build for my GL, and added a diff lock at the time. I live in New England - and while the diff lock helps in snow, one needs snow tires for best traction in my opinion. Lots of miles in the snow - and winter tires are the key. All-seasons are good, but winter tires are better yet.
