Hi Doug,

I will concede that the specs on the Xantrex are much more detailed than those available for the other brands (mastercraft & Coleman) that I have seen recently. Note that the original thread was regarding "Radio Shack" inverters, rather than serious RV or commercial products. Personally, I wouldn't trust the power rating on a Radio Shack inverter as far as the store parking lot. YMMV.

The specs on that Xantrex unit are impressive. It's also quite large in comparison to the 400W Mastercraft unit I'm using. Mine is about 2" x 6" x 8" (96 cubic inches) . The Xantrex is 3.2" x 17" x 9" ( >500 cubic inches) . 1500W continuous output is about 9 times the true continuous output of my 400W inverter, at only 4 times the price. ( mine was $49 on sale).

If you need to run power tools the Xantrex unit looks like a very good buy.
