IIRC, I just put a socket on the pulley and turned it with a long-handled ratchet- you can do this from above the engine if you finagle it right, so you can watch the TC while you turn (it helps to have a mechanic's mirror). I dunno if that's according to Hoyle, but it works. I usually disconnect the battery before I do things like this, or you could pull the coil wire; you can also pull the plugs to make it turn easier. Make sure you're turning the engine in the right direction.

As for the other thing, I'm not sure what you're talking about from your description but the only thing that comes to mind on my getup is the cruse control actuator/servo doohicky. I've never had to mess with it to get those bolts out however.

A word of warning about the bolts themselves- if you happen to drop or lose one, you have to replace it with one of the exact length. If you're even a sukosh too long you'll booger up your TC- don't ask me how I know this.

Good luck, Robert

how do I turn the crankshaft to access the torque converter bolts? Bentley says to use adaptor 3052 with extension and T handle -- one of which I have

also, there's a thing on my engine that isn't shown or mentioned in Bentley, which obstructs the hole in the top of the transmission housing. It's mounted on the black part of the intake air distributor, and has a aprox 1cm dia metal tube going through the front cover plate; it also has a rod connecting it to the throttle assembly. In the Bentley pic 38-394 on page 37.4 it would show just above the woven tube part of the air distributor.

any ideas please reply asap -- I've rented a tranny jack, but can't get working because I can't turn the engine to get at the bolts.

thanks! Alan
