I'd expect to spend at least $1000-1500; transaxle needs to be out of the vehicle. If you're having a tranaxle serviced or built - it might be something to consider. I have the diff lock; don't know if one could fit a Quaife LSD to a Vanagon transaxle. There are Quaife applications for other VWs.

I'd guess that many good Vanagon shops can do this: GoWesty, Vanamania, probably many others. GoWesty did mine.

To me, a better investment is four dedicated winter tires on another set of wheels.
