I have an '81 and must say, heat isn't too much of an issue.

Last winter I spent in Minneapolis and drove my van every day. The stock heat works really well when everything is hooked up and sealed properly, but the best best best part of mine is the BA6 gas powered heater. Man, the combo of good stock heat and the optional BA6 when its getting to be more than 10 below - you just can't beat it.

I could literally drive in shorts and a t-shirt all winter long if I had wanted.

So yea, you can either try your best to get everything buttoned up tight on your stock heat (which could be pretty pricey) or add something aftermarket to get it going.

Id look to see how bad your current stuff is and contemplate just getting something you can add onto your existing system - which is nice if you plan to always have vans as you could transfer the unit to your next aircooled setup!

good luck!
