RE: Video of fire while filling with gas.... That video is classic. Not to long ago there was a segment of a TV show on just this subject. Based on studies of surveillance film showing several incidents like this the conclusions were as follows: First, the problem happens much more with women than men. Second, the problem almost always occurs after the individual has re-entered the car while the fueling is going on then returns to the nozzle. Explanation was that women's clothing tends to create static charges more easily than men's, more women tend to get back into the vehicle while fueling than men. When first picking up the filling spout, any static charge is dissipated because the hand is grounded by the nozzle. But when returning to the nozzle and touching it there is a spark right at the place where there is the greatest density of fumes. All it takes is a density of close to 14:1 and Bang!
