Interesting that the following quote was from an "authority" on the matter:

"Every time you pump gasoline, a charge of electricity builds up on
gasoline as it flows through a pipe or hose and this charge takes
several seconds to several minutes to dissipate after the gasoline has
reached the tank or container," explains Bob Renkes, executive
director of the Petroleum Equipment Institute. "That risk is avoided
when you pump gasoline into your car, because both the gasoline
dispenser and the vehicle are grounded."

Sheer hogwash. Your car IS NOT grounded unless you have a low impedance path
to 'earth ground'.  Commonly available tires for the vanagon DO NOT provide
such a path.  However some of us have inadvertant grounding mechanisms
caused by poor design or implementation of upgrades or modif*ckations that
cause metal to drag upon the roadway...

Clearly Mr. Renkes needs a quick tuneup to his ESD knowledge.  Note that he
is in the Oil Bidness so to speak.

It is left as an exercise for the curious to investigate ESD (electro-static
discharge) precautions.

I do know that when I was younger, stealth-painted and heavily muffled
trucks were used to surreptitiously remove the bodies of those who violated
ESD ordinances and became blazing funeral pyres of their own ignorance.  All
this was done to protect the populace from realizing the dangers of and
propagate the various myths and lore regarding electrons, their existence,
and their impact on the world of the underinformed consumer with respect to
subsidizing the exploitation of long dead vegetation in the name of
progress.  The trend continued with the OPD devices and the bodies that
would have been stacked like cordwood along the highways had the proper
authorities not cleaned them up in a surreptitious manner out of public
view...

With your one remaining good eye DO NOT look back into the laser.
