Well, thanks to all who responded. Ken, you nailed it! Turned out to be
a simple fix, I am happy to say. Somehow the new throttle position
switch got out of adjustment and was not "on" at idle. After making a
minute adjustment, all was fine. Starts right up and idles like its
supposed to now.
Should have guessed that was the problem after all the grief I went
through with the supposed "Vanagon Syndrome" only to find out it was a
bad throttle position switch.
