Since Andrew's report of his 4/5 slider hub problem (3/4 slider in 4speeds), I've been paying more attention to my 5 speed DX tranny. I do seem to have some issues with 4/5, so am wondering if I am going to see this problem soon also. Mine is like this: when cold, 4/5 shift fine. Once warmed up, the 4-5 shift sometimes will not go into 5th - no grinding, no problem coming out of 4th, just a "wall" going into 5th. 2nd attempt usually gets it fine, and since my linkage is a bit sloppy, I've suspected that was the problem, ie: the linkage was off a bit. But now I'm not so sure. I've never had the problem of not coming out of gear, which seems to be the more common report I've heard. My tranny is reported to have about 90k original miles, so the slider hub is likely original. Otherwise, operation is smooth and quiet, with no noises at all, much quieter than my rebuilt 4 speed.
