Yes I knew about the waterpump. I shut down and parked as soon as I realized what happened, but did limp home once the engine had cooled (short distance and a sharp eye on the coolant gauge)

The new belt is definately tight, though the alternator seems as though its not positioned as far towards the passenger side as the old belt (do they stretch over time?).

I have not tested the battery or the alternator output. The alternator itself should be OK, its practically new, but I could have inadvertently disconnected or lossened something when I was doing the belt.

I haven't dug out my voltmeter yet, how does one test the alternator output with it?
