I just took mine off. I pulled the knobs off with a pair of bent needle nose pliers, grip behind the wide part (where your fingers go) and pull. I had to wiggle up or down so the knob inside would clear the plastic of the face plate. The pegs are located at the left lower corner and on the right side at the top just about in the middle between the fan switch and where the face plate slots start (as I sat their looking at it).
