Subject: Re: Where can I find " plastic wheel arch extensions" & ROO Bars?

I found out more information on the wheel arches that were offered on ebay. They were not offered by the ebay seller I mentioned earlier --my mistake.

The arches that were offered on ebay were apparently not made off the VW molds. They were full one-piece arches in fiberglass--one piece for each fender. They were either hand molded or knock offs of some inferior aftermarket design.

I believe the original VW front wheel well arches are the two-piece variety with one piece attaching to the door the other piece attaching to the body at the rear of the fender opening. Again, those on ebay were all one piece fitting over the existing wheel arch. This ebay set up also apparently widened the van a bit and could or does cause problems with the sliding door passing by the rear fender flare. I understand the VW offerings do not widen the Vanagon by any signifigant measure, if at all.

It also seems these ebay flares would mount by external and therefore visible rivits or screws. All in all I don't think they are what anyone was looking for. Additionally, the quality and fit of these items apparently was not all that desirable.

It would seem a better avenue would be to follow the idea you all came up with to manufacture some from the original VW part.
