How do you get the bulb out of the socket? Do the tabs pinch together and slide out? Separate and slide out? I figured I ought to ask before I find out how or break it. Be a drag to break the socket and find a bulb tomorrow.

Rob, the bulb is part of the socket it was not meant to be removed. The leads of the bulb are welded to the terminal ends in the socket. You have to forcefully remove that bulb so that your left with the socket and the two terminal ends inside. Then try to figure a way to get the new bulb you find to make contact with those terminal ends. Maybe better to find another similar bulb with socket and just splice it on to the wires as someone else suggested.
