Thanks for responding, John. The starter I took out had 1000 miles on it. It was a remanufactured (rebuilt?) Bosch. I lubed the bushing but did not replace it as it was pretty new. Put the same make of starter back in. The "grinding" sound is like when you hit the starter and it is already running. It doesn't do it all the time. I don't know how you can mis-install a starter. And I don't see two starters in a row doing the same thing. I'll be inspecting the ring gear tonite. Tom |
