I think I looked at getting a rebuilt TC when I was doing mine, and had little luck finding one. Or, it was quite expensive, especially with shipping and then sending my core back. I can't remember which of those scenarios it was. I ended up taking mine to a reputable local rebuilder. It was about $110 or so iirc. Another disappointment on my project was that I had a small leak at the TC seal. I was very careful and got the special VW seal and everything. The guy who finally swapped in the good used trans for me said the TC rebuild was not right, based on the way it was leaking.
