Max Bite the bullet and put a gas line in. You don't have to trench as they can be pushed. Drywall the ceiling leaving an access door to your attic storage space. That way you are only heating the work space. I have a 22x 22' garage with open rafters, no insulation, concrete pad floor which I heat with an old house furnace I bought used for $25. I have no duct work just a deflector on the top that directs the output into the garage instead of the attic.. Temps here can get to -40C. The furnace is on a breaker. I leave the pilot on if I know i will be in the garage. Flip the breaker and 10-12 minutes later it's hospitable. 20 minutes and it shuts down toasty warm. Any tools i want to use i place in the airflow on to of the furnace as they are COLD. warms them up quickly too.

Propane has lower thermal energy and, as temps drop, evaporates slower in the bottle leaving you with less pressure and hence less fuel available. A 100 lb bottle really only has 50-60% available when the temps drop down below -10 C. It's still in there but it's not available until the ambient temp (bottle temp) rises so in cold weather you have to fill it more often. Besides. it's an eyesore in the yard.
