I'd just put them behind lexan/clear plastic covers. The covers could/would be flush with the luggage rack. The lights would be recessed behind them.

Brilliant idea... somebody into modifying the heck out of his van should do this Eric....

I'd also like some rear facing lights while your at it for when I'm backed into a campsite :) Obviously with a dedicated switch accessible from either the drivers seat (for backing in) or from outside the van (for when parked), and obviously fed off the house battery for when the motor's not running.

The only problem is what to do with the pop-top going up and down, it'd change the angle of the lights...

I have a 3rd brake light that is a 12" long horizontal strip of red LEDs. It has a horizontal pivot mount on either end to aim it. Maybe one could do something like that, maybe even leave it externally mounted... although the SWEET set-up would be to recess it inside the top and then to counter balance it so that it automatically leveled whether the top was up or down...

wow... you've got a lot of work to do Eric...
