On my 81 vanagon with the swivel seat the metal plate and the track stay on the van if you remove the track from the original seat the whole metal bottom and have this welded to your replacement seat then you can do every thing out side then no inside cutting or welding. Where i led people astray by my email reply was that on the type 2 74-76 by removing 4 nuts on the metal disk the whole sliding track come off so i destroyed the old set escept for the bottom and had this welded on the replacement seat.
