RE: Upgrades for the standard Square Headlamps:

John,

I just went through this question on the list serv.

Here is what I found out in brief: To use your existing lamps and improve lighting you need to do the following:

1. You need a headlamp upgrade relay kit

2. You need to upgrade your fuses from 10amp to 15 amp

3. You need to upgrade your bulbs to higher output bulbs to get the real advantage of the new lamp upgrade.

4. Optionally upgrade all your wiring to higher 10 gauge wiring.

(Note: Many will tell you that due to the poor lamp design of the stock driving lights the pattern will always be poor, but upgrading the light output and bulb will help)"

What others on the list have purchases and installed:

http://www.rallylights.com/ After updating my headlight circuit with relays I purchased and installed the following replacement bulbs and have been very pleased with the result.

Part# | Desc | Units | Unit Price | Total Price | Vendor

HL78179 | 9004/HB1 100/80w Replacement Bulb | 2 | $10.75 | $21.50 | http://www.rallylights.com/ HL78140Y | H3 110W Yellow Star Replacement Bulb | 2 | $8.06 | $16.12 | http://www.rallylights.com/

Brent Weide www.weidefamily.net/vanagon/ --------------------------- Others have added Hella driving lights that comes on with the brights.

Note:* Stay away from Blue bulbs as they are not good for visual range of sight on the road due to the spectrum of color they produce.
