Small-quantity handmade stuff will most likely never be noticed. Stuff that conscientiously avoids VW trademarks ("VW","Volkswagen", the V-over-W-in-a-cricle logo) will most likely not be challenged even if noticed. Of course, the jerkiness of VW's legal department is such that a C&D letter wouldn't surprise anyone. I say go for it, as the worst you're likely to get is a request that you stop it.
