Mark,

Your Nokian dealer has the option of ordering tires with or without studs from the factory. Our local dealer orders most of their inventory with studs but does import certain models without and studs them at the customers request. I have unstudded Nokians on the 86 Syncro and they work well on ice, snow, or dry roads. I have not had a chance to test them much as they were on the van when I purchased it this fall and I have not driven it much as it was a roll-over and the windshield is retained with duct tape. I did drive the van 125 miles on wet and dry asphalt to get it home, and have since driven it to work on ice and snow a few times. I also have studded Nokians on my 1990 Audi 200 Quattro wagon and it handles like it is on rails.
