Hi YA!
i havent done much past stock on my vanagon. i will at some point, but i have other more important financial issues i must take care of before i can install my ultimate vanagon stereo system...
so here is what is currently in it. an alpine cd deck(i dont remember the model number), but it is of 90's vintage and gets me by. the output of this deck is around 25 watts per channel, but that really an insignificant number since it really the amps that really give your system any depth. im running all the factory 4" blaupunkt speaker. these actually produce some really good mid's and high's. they are capped so as to keep most bass from reaching them. I have a directed 250D amp pushing two polk audio 8" sub which are under the rear bench. the system is fairly well balanced out because the 8's can play mid bass accurately, which allows me to turn the crossover up on the amp to around 150Hz...
but as for the future plan.... well im gonna install a nakamichi head unit. it has 3 sets of pre-amp outputs, and an aux input. since it has 3 sets of outputs it also has sub-woofer level controls integrated in the deck. there will be a nakamichi 4-channel amp added to the system as well. not to expensive, but well made and powerful. that amp will push a set of 4 mb quart speaker. components set up front and coaxial mount in the rear. also i will put 4 newer 8" subs under the rear bench(i will use polk again for these). and of course i will do some level of sound proofing. i know that 4 subs seems like a bit much, actually it seems completely unnecessary. but, i want to be able to look and stupid kid next to me with his all bass no clarity sound system, and role down my window, turn up the volume, turn up the subs, and give em the "b#%ch please" look when i blow em away with Dave Brubeck...
*so lets recap--currently there is
alpine cd head unit
stock blaupunkt 4" speakers with caps cutting bass out at about 150Hz
directed 250D mono-block sub amp(mounted behind passenger seat)
dual 8" polk audio subs(mounted under rear bench)
*someday i will have
nakamichi cd head unit---CD-400
nakamichi 4-channel amp---PA-2004(mounted behind driver seat)
mb quarts-front 6" separates/components up---(model unsure at this point)
-rear 5.25" coaxial---(model unsure at this point)
directed 250D mono-block sub amp(mounted behind passenger seat)
four polk audio 8" subs---MM2084(mounted under rear bench)
i may change the location of some of the subs, because i dont want my rear passenger so constantly feel bass... ill just have to see when i get there.
if you want pmail me and ill send them out :-]
that is all
Rajesh
