Go to Alaska, ramble around in the brush and you will find all kinds of Splitties hanging out there ..... abandoned long ago by hippie travelers going to "The Promised Land".... only to find it wasn't there either. But the trip in those days succeeded in killing off a bunch of their splitties. That 1450 miles of rough gravel road back then was enough to kill many a vehicle, or at least casue it's early demise. In the good old days, vehicles went to Alaska and they never returned.

With the paved roads of today, it's not quite as bad, though it still happens. A few days before moving back south, I saw a Westy Syncro sitting on the side of the road. It was a bit rough, but much could have been done with it. Price tag on it said $200 OBO and had a phone number. It had come up from the states .... had a Washington tag on it. . At the time I had a spiffy 85 GL that was running good, and I was headed down the ALCAN so I sure didn't need another van. I just kept on trucking.

But the old splitties are out there..... I's seen'em!! A good place to hunt is Happy Valley down below Soldotna on the Kenai Peninsula on the road to home. Lot's of those old hippies settled there. So guess why it's called Happy Valley?? Used to be you could drive down through that smokey hollow on the way to Homer and come out on the other side feeling "Goooood!"

Yep, lots of old dead splitties back in those woods!
