Re: Sleeping comfort
I have always said, there are three things,
I don't like when I sleep.
Getting wet,
Getting chewed up by bugs,
and a hard surface to lay on.
(lots of smoke & loud noise might be #4)
I have had 4 campers because I PREFER them.
Many times on trips, we have to keep refusing well meaning friends offers to
"please sleep in our guest bed".
If you have never spent anytime in your own private comfortable camper bed,
you will never get this point... no matter where you go, or who's place you
are at. Your bed is always the same comfortable restful private intimate
nest.
We did a 15K trip around NA... for 8 weeks every night, we slept like a log.
Once or twice I might have woke up if a bear was sniffing at the window
screen, some loud drunks stumbled by or the wind was really blowing us
around.
What do I attribute this restfulness to?
Many vans ago, I made up 2 sleeping pads.
Each is made of 2 egg crate foam camp sleeping pads. You take a double bed
size sheet, fold it over and sew it all around except at one end. Turn it
inside out and that's what you put the 2 foam pads into... the pads are 24"
wide... two pads beside each other are 48" wide, that's the width of your
lower bunk. When not in use they fold double and sit on the back deck. You
can leave your sheets, blankets and pillows there and just flip the pads
double when you fold the seat/bed up. Then at anytime ya want a nap/rest,
put the seat down, flip down the pads and crawl in your comfy nest. Doubled
up they make a good bed for guest, on a floor or in a cabin. The covers slip
off and go in the wash with the matching sheets and pillow cases. Mine are
grey/blue and closely match the interior of my van. Upstairs or down, in or
out of the van... they make for a very comfy sleep.... but then again you
don't have to be comfortable... you can suffer the stock gulag thin foam you
have.... but I don't have to.
Key West seems interesting right about now doesn't it?
