I had my original windshield replaced in 2002, it was too scratched and hard to see through especially at night. I ended up reusing the original no-trim seal, it looked better than the new replacement one that the installer showed up with. He used no sealant of any kind, I also took the time to clean and wax the metal frame while he was prepping the new windshield, there was no old sealant to clean off the frame or the seal.

It never has leaked even through some pretty torrential rainstorms.
