I need help diagnosing my current Vanagon problem. I have an '87 2WD with
manual transmission. I replaced the clutch with a kit from Bus Depot that
came with the usual components. A few hundred miles later the bus won't
move. There is a growling/howling sound that is present whether the clutch
is depressed or not. It's more severe when the clutch is let out. I figure
that I did something wrong during the clutch installation and burned it up.
So I got another kit and disassembled it again, but I find no apparent
damage. I put the new clutch in anyway, but the problem hasn't been solved.
What else could it be? I simply don't have the money to have it diagnosed or
repaired professionally. I thank the list for all past and future help.
