Subject: Sound Deadening - how much to buy?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1250"

Now that my van is completely in pieces and freshly painted, I am more than considering installing sound deadening in my 85 Westy. I did some research based on list emails (thanks!!) which led me to HYPERLINK "http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/conclusion/"http://www.sounddeadenersh owdown.com/conclusion/. I have narrowed my choice down to RAAMaudio (lower cost and quality) or Second Skin Audio (supreme quality, higher cost) with Second Skin leading because it is thicker which kinda makes up for the extra cost. I have previously used Dynamat in the engine compartment during my TD engine swap because it was an afterthought and my mechanic had it on hand. I had to use a heat gun. These two options say they don't need a heat gun, so that is worth a lot to me because I am trying to get this on the road ASAP.

The questions I have for those that have done this before are:

How many square feet should I order to do the van walls including the doors? I am only planning on one layer.

How many square feet should I order to do the floor? I am thinking of not doing the floor because the front already has some from factory and the rest of the floor has the Westy floor and bed covering it.

Should I put this on the metal side of the walls or on the interior panels? It would be common sense to put it on the metal, but I am wondering if anyone has tried something like this on the panels and what the results were.

Thanks,

Dana 85 Westy TD 04 Beetle TDI PD
