All,

Last summer I saw a van at an informal Buses by the Beach get together that had no seams in the body! The owner told me that he had brought this van back from the grave and had to do a ton of body work in the process. He thought the best way to prevent seam rust is to eliminate the seams, makes sense to me. He did this by filling the seams with a welder and then painting them over. Look pretty effective, but you gotta be good with a welder.

See any good paint and body shop supply store for ......... 3M body & seam sealer! Factories use it to seal around rain gutters etc, completely paintable. About $15.00 a can.

trust me.. you cannot paint automotive finishes over silicone.. BTDT it aint gonna work. use seam sealer. and remember - the rust/water comes from BEHIND the seam. so making the outside pretty without taking care of the root of the problem is a waste of time..
