Subject: "MIA" Back From The Dead!!! (I'm so excited.....)

For those of you following the story of "MIA";

I've had 1981 Westy van in the shop for over a month now, driving my bosses 1993 Multivan. Distributor core replaced, fuel filter, experimented with airflow......

The CPU was working exceptionally in the begin, then after all the bucking and stalling issues, dead battery issues, the CPU finally failed.

I think I have a great mechanic. When I was buying my VW I heard many stories about him, how great he was....when I first started going to him I wasn't sure about him, he's a bit "artistic". But this whole VW experience has convinced me that he's really trying to keep me and my VW on the road.

My van is a "California" van, which means everything electronically is different from other vans up here. He got a Canadian CPU with an American # on it.....set it all up and it didn't work. Got a U.S. CPU and re-did the entire process, and amongst many other adjustments and experiments, apparenltly it's now fixed. Goes 40 up a steep hill in 3rd....don't think it did that before!!!!!!!

On New Year's I took the 1993 Multivan camping, decided to flee the city at 5pm got a great site right on the ocean. The pop top is very small, so I decided so sleep down. Couldn't get the downstairs bed set up for the life of me, so got it reclined, and slept sideways. There was a fantastic windstorm flowing through, had the BEST night. At 12:00 my neighbour played Auld Lang Syne on the trumpet (waking me up....)......

I'm picking my van up tomorrow, and it's going to be around $1,000.00. Which is cheap, considering all of the scenarios I'd envisioned over the Christmas season. Remember, I've been driving his newer van for a month....

I figure this mechanic now knows all there is to know about my van, and she and I are going camping next weekend, she has no idea how much I missed her!

Thanks all for helping to troubleshoot and to help me to understand and speak semi-intelligently with my mechanic!!!!

Lorraine 1981 Westy "MIA (FIXED) 1993 Multivan (going home tomorrow......)

Lorraine Sym 1981 Westy "MIA"
