I'd second the child hammock - we camp in a '74 loaf with my wife, myself, and 4 kids (ages now 10, 8, 6, and 3). We got the loaf when my second child was 1 - the youngest always sleeps in the way back behind the seat. Second sleeps on the child's hammock over the front seats. Third sleeps length-wise on the back seat, and oldest sleeps on the floor. Wife and I are up top (where it tends to be cooler)...

We usually set up a tent for a place to play. Take cards for the older ones. Bikes / tricycles do wonders if you're staying at a campground for more than a day or two... Take plenty of wipes for hand washing as playing in the dirt is a favorite past time. The glow in the dark necklaces / rings (that you bend / break to activate) from the dollar store make for hours of after dark activity and make it really easy to find kids in the dark!!

Vanagon content: When going for more than an overnight, we obviously have to take more than one vehicle (just the bedding and car seats alone take up most of the loaf). So we then take my diesel 7 passenger van along on those occasions... set the westy up on the camp site and use the vanagon to go out and about.

Alrighty!

Have I got a deal for you...

The one accessory that VW coulda made but appearently didn't for the Westy! A Childs hammock for the front seat area.

One of the ladies in our VW club makes these for the vanagon and I would be happy to p-mail folks with her info should you be interested in obtaining this handy gem (works great for storing gear up front too)
