The caps look the same, but actually are not. I lost three of the stock Bug caps from my van before I was informed of the difference. Stock Bus caps are about 1/4" deeper than stock Bug caps. Look at the edge of the disc - if you have both available, the difference is easy to see if they are side-by-side. The shallower Bug caps don't lock down on the ribs of the wheels, because the stub axle in the rear, or the dust capand speedo drive in the front protrude too far.

Ps. Sorry if that is just such a newbee question..... My 86 Vanagon had the big Hub Caps that looked like flying saucers...you know plastic gray ones.
