Tim,

You are absolutely correct. The term "Weekender" is just a nickname and has never been used as an official model designation for the Vanagon by VW. Even the use of Weekender is different depending on who you talk to... some think a Weekender is any model where the rear seat makes into a bed, others say it is the pop-top model without the camper equipment. Personally, I hate the nickname.

AFAIK, the USA models are:

-Basic Camper (often called a Weekender) -Camper GL -Multivan (often called a Weekender) -Carat -Wolfsburg -Vanagon GL -Vanagon L -Vanagon

As well as variations mixing the above.

* add the term Syncro where applicable.

Happy Friday,

Jeff

The "Westy Weekender" nickname is cute until someone needs to find a value for one in Kelly Blue Book or in the model info section on Vanagon.com; it's not in either place nor in any VWoA documentation I have ever seen.

My '91 Carat had a Westfalia tag on the fold-down rear seat - doesn't that make it a "Westy Weekender" too?

Tim
