Some have said grommets, others, the x-over tube. When I recently R&R'd the gas tank on my '88, it was the 'Y' fitting on the passenger side of the x-over tube. It was broken completely through. The grommets were all in good shape, but since I had the kit, I replaced everything. I may need them when I do my '90 Westy.

I am surprised no one has come up with a work-around for this re-curring problem. Or maybe no one wants to take a chance on a failure and have to drop the tank again, as long as the correct parts are available. I went to my Ace hardware yesterday and got some nylon barbed fittings and am going to see what I can come up with. Jerry

Hi volks,

According to recent threads the crossover tube on top of the gas tank is on back order by all our usual vendors.

I was wondering if this tube is usually the culprit in gas spilling when topping up the tank? Does anybody know if you can replace the grommets and stop the leaking and just replace the breather tube when it eventually comes available or jerry rig something else in the meantime?

Cheers, Phil '89 Westy
