We are down to the wire on this overhaul.

A short explanation to catch you up.

I took all of your advice.

1.We have the oxygen sensor unplugged. 2. We checked the throttle control switch it was OK.

I ordered and installed the fuel pressure regulator, it took 2 weeks to get it here.....

If you remember our saga, when we last communicated,

I had a black smoke, and a shooty looking exhaust out of the exhaust pipe. there was gasoline somehow getting into the engine case, of my fresh rebuilt 1.9l waterboxer. Along with some other general issues I have a few questions for all the experts out there.

How important is the Vacuum shutoff valve Charcoal canister system?

(The previous owner has a short hose on the top of this valve with a bolt blocking the hose.) Page 24.24b in the Vanagon Bentley book shows a "T" with a 0.15mm reduction orifice adaptor going to the throttle body, from this "vacuum shut off valve.

Could this cause fuel to enter the crankcase?

My clutch slave cylinder seems to be leaking along with the forward dash brake cylinder res. ??

Are there re-build kits for these, for seals or do the cylinders need replacing altogether?

The lights on my dash board inst. cluster are out??

Could this be a fuse???

I bought some replacement lamps but can not figure out how the old bulbs come out???

We are a bit nervous about running the motor after the fuel in the oil incident. Thank you all for your input, I would really be at a loss without it.

Best regards Al Cady, Conrad, Montana 85 GL Vanagon
