I dunno, I'm just brainstorming now. I was thinking of
something along these lines, in concept:

elegant.
I guess if list members liked the idea, and you
thought we could at least break even on some sort of
group purchase and/or after- sales, I'd be happy to
come up with some concept sketches and final artwork
for listers to vote upon.
For estimating purposes, assume a cast white-metal or
brass piece 3-4" in diameter, probably some sort of
integrated screw bosses on the back, and a simple
mounting bracket to affix it to the Vanagon grill.
Quantities would depend entirely upon the level of
interest (well, volks?).
Then of course, there is the entirely separate issue
of VW's copyright concerns, which presumably include
the familiar VW logo, use of the name and physical
likeness of the Vanagon itself, and perhaps even the
use of the word "miles". Wouldn't want to do anything
to incite their corporate hordes of flyin' monkeys ...
