Anchorage to Seattle is about 2500 miles and the trip you took is awesome, at least the southbound trip is all down hill!:>) I agree that taking the road one way and ferry the other is a great idea, it lets you see two distinctly different areas and you can relax while on the ferry. My favorite bumpersticker re the Alcan is: "There is not a single mosquito on the Alaska Highway, they are all married and have very large families".
