Marty...The most common trans failure is the 3rd/4th slider assy cracking and causing just those symptoms to start with...If you have fine tuned the linkage adjustement, then the trans is on its way to a rebuild. 3rd and 4th issues are seldom caused by adjustment...sometimes wearing of components, but not usually a problemm, whereas the cracking component does. Next step is losing either 3rd or 4th or both...You have officailly been forwarned by the Vanagon Gods that "stuff" is gonna happen.... Daryl of AA Transaxle Duvall, WA. Just recently I have noticed a slight grab when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. It seems to be getting worse. Is this a shift linkage mis-adjustment or is it the slider issue. What testing can be done to determine what is really going on?

Thanks,

Marty
