Living in Orlando, I use my heat very little, I keep the vents blocked off most of the time. If I need to clear the windshield when it rains, I run the A/C for a couple of minutes.

That being said, this morning it was 39F here and I'm glad that I have the front heater. I ran it full blast at 7am but didn't need it at 11am.

It isn't very much money to replace the heater hoses, it takes about 30' of 5/8" hose and you can pull the new ones in using the old ones. Run the new ones right past the rear heater if you don't want to pipe it in, you can always cut in the 'T's later.

You might not have a problem with bundling up to stay warm, but you might want to consider the others that will have to ride in your vehicle, like your spouse, kids or mother, i.e.; they might not be as cold-tolerant. And you better make sure that you get the A/C functional before summer hits if you want anyone to ride in your van :>).

Good luck,

Tim

I'm in the process of planning an entire fresh of the mechanicals of my 85 Westy. This includes installing the new Zetec engine. As part of my project I'm planning to take out the rear heater core and now that we live in texas i'm considering removing the front as well. I'll be taking off the dash to fix the vents so i'll be right there already. Here's my rational: 1. I don't want to spend the time or money on replacing hoses and the exchanger to ensure the refresh is complete. 2. It's just another potential failure point that i'm not sure i'll actually need. 3. compared to the midwest, texas just doesn't get cold enough to warrant having heat. i'd rather bundle up if it's a little cold.

thanks in advance for your thoughts.
